Hi, I’m Simone Jamie and I’d like to share my holistic health journey with you. I want to empower you and help you make the same journey.

Only a short time ago, I was where you are. Suffering from a range of symptoms with no relief in sight. Doctors and specialists were saying it was all in my head. Well, that’s the message I got because nobody could find what was wrong with me. Even when they did come up with a diagnosis and attempted to treat me, I continued to experience symptoms. I knew it wasn’t in my head. My symptoms were real. Even though I was functioning, I wasn’t really living. I wanted to thrive, not just survive!

Eventually, I took matters into my own hands and started on a journey that has led to renewed health. I became a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner because I wanted to help people like you. Frustrated people at their wit’s end. People like you who just want to feel healthy. People who want to live life and feel normal.

I was so amazed at the change in my own health that I wanted to learn more. In particular, I was impressed with the way the Autoimmune Protocol diet helped me with my autoimmune symptoms. This led me to further my education to become a Certified Autoimmune Protocol Coach. This means I can help even more of you with a holistic health approach.

This is my story. Grab a cuppa and settle in – it’s a bit of a long one.

I was very active as a young child. I was always doing some sort of physical activity – dancing, swimming at the beach, playing netball and tennis. But this didn’t seem to ward off illness. From as young as I can remember, I was on frequent rounds of antibiotics. I suffered from constant ear and throat infections, as well as eczema. The eczema was so bad it was even on my scalp.

I don’t remember ever thinking about my food choices when I was growing up. We were a typical family. We ate a lot of frozen foods and breads, cakes and pies were staples in our diet. I guess many families were the same. Even today, those foods are convenient in busy lives. Fortunately, despite my diet, I was super slim (and looked great in a bikini…if I do say so myself!). This gave me the false illusion that I was healthy.

Feeling Unwell

As the years went on, my energy levels dropped and I picked up every virus going around. I had chronic sinus infections that made life unbearable. I had extremely high cholesterol at the age of 20 which doctors put down to genetics.

I also started dealing with digestive issues. Specialists concluded that my body was producing too much stomach acid. They offered me meds and said I would have to be on them for the rest of my life. Why? It didn’t seem right.

Alternative Treatments

None of my symptoms or the things doctors were telling me made sense. So I began my own research and sought out alternative treatments. Over the years I saw naturopaths and homeopaths. They prescribed supplements and changes to my diet. At first I did feel a little better but I never felt “well”. I spent hundreds and thousands of dollars but still didn’t feel like I had a solution or a resolution. Some of you may be at this point right now.

Impact On My Life

My health issues caused stress in other parts of my life. I worked in the corporate world, and being a bit of a perfectionist, I wanted to do my absolute best. I worked super long hours and this added to my exhaustion. A healthy person would have had trouble keeping up their energy but I was already way behind.

Then, after the birth of my first child, I could barely function. My baby had reflux and eczema which meant he barely slept. The exhaustion was crippling. At first I thought that’s what new mums feel. But as friends with newborns started to go out and back to work, I realised something was seriously wrong.

Hashimoto's Diagnosis

Again I took myself off to the doctor hoping for answers. They ran tests and for the first time, I had a diagnosis. I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid, and in particular Hashimoto's Disease. I was told that my immune system was mistakenly attacking the cells of my thyroid gland. I started on a combination of thyroid replacement medication. I also switched to a healthy paleo-type diet which was gluten and dairy-free.

Unfortunately, the long-awaited diagnosis didn't bring me the joy and relief I expected. I still found myself suffering many of the same symptoms. I was gaining weight and had extremely dry and brittle hair, skin and nails. High cholesterol, iron deficiency and fluid retention/puffiness were also evident. I was so tired and just dragging myself through each day.

Spiralling Downwards

I still had no answers and things were going from bad to worse. I started having issues with my lower back - bulging discs are not fun! A year after that I progressed to lockjaw. I also continued to have gut issues that seemed to be triggered by my hormone cycle.

My whole system felt inflamed and dysfunctional. I hit rock bottom. I was angry and frustrated. Why couldn't anyone help me? Why couldn't anyone find what was wrong with me? I begged my GP for help and they tried. But all the tests showed everything was "within normal range".

The Start of my Holistic Health Journey

I decided that if nobody else could help me, I was going to help myself. Because there was no way I wanted to live like this for the rest of my life. My need for answers led me to become a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner. That’s how desperate I was. I changed careers to save myself.

Functional diagnostic nutrition is about how the various systems of the body function. It’s what holistic health is all about. But it also involves running, and more importantly, interpreting, functional lab tests to identify any dysfunction or stressors on these body systems. This really connected with me.

The whole thing suddenly made sense. It’s not about treating a specific symptom. Symptoms are not usually the problem. They are the result of an underlying problem or dysfunction.

When I started to look at everything as a whole, I could see the dots joining up.

Health Detective

I basically became a health detective. This meant I was investigating what was happening with my body at a functional level. It was through this process that I finally found some real answers to my symptoms.

Through several functional lab tests, I discovered that I was struggling with:

  • HPA Axis Dysfunction (also known as Adrenal Fatigue)
  • Hormone imbalances
  • Food intolerances
  • Dysbiosis (imbalance of ‘good’ and bad gut bacteria)
  • Parasites
  • Candida
  • Leaky Gut
  • Liver detoxification issues
  • MTHFR (affecting my methylation)
  • Pyrrole Disorder
  • Vitamin and mineral deficiencies

Look at that list. No wonder I was feeling like crap. My body was not functioning properly. I wasn’t happy to see all that. But I was incredibly relieved to finally have a ‘why’ to my symptoms. This meant I could start addressing these healing opportunities.

The Only Way Is Up

The thing about hitting rock bottom is that there’s only one way you can go from there – up. Once I made the decision to put my health first, everything started to improve. I worked on correcting the dysfunctions by following my ‘D.R.E.S.S. program’. I overhauled my Diet and fine-tuned the quality of my Rest/sleep. My Exercise/movement program was re-evaluated and I cracked down on Stress. I also removed toxins and Supplemented where necessary to address my deficiencies.

My mindset started to shift too. This was because of the changes I made. I could see they were giving me results. The fog started to lift.
I was so excited by my own results and wanted to enhance them further, so I went on to also become a Certified Autoimmune Protocol Coach. This means I can also help people with autoimmune conditions to implement the Autoimmune Protocol diet. What’s an Autoimmune Protocol diet? It’s a science-based elimination and reintroduction diet and lifestyle framework for autoimmune and chronic disease. It has a particular focus on nutrient density, healing the gut and reducing inflammation.

I can bring you the best practices and most current knowledge in the field.
I used a functional and holistic health approach. This encompassed a range of natural healing modalities. I overhauled my health, rebalancing my body so it was geared to thrive.
Now, I want to help you to do the same! Because without your health, what else is there?

Happy Ending – Continuing my Holistic Health Journey

I can’t ‘cure’ my autoimmune disease or anyone else’s. But you can be damn sure that I’m going to do everything possible to feel and function as best as I can. DESPITE my autoimmune condition. Nobody needs to settle for feeling crap.

It’s been a long journey to get to this point BUT I now feel the best I’ve ever felt, and feel compelled to help people like you.

If I can help you avoid a long, expensive and tumultuous journey like mine, I want to do that. I want to help you investigate your own INDIVIDUAL healing opportunities. And these will be different to mine. We can work on a plan together so you feel and function better.

It doesn’t matter whether you already have a diagnosis or have symptoms and no answers. You may even be feeling great.  It doesn’t matter where you are on your health journey. You can still look into your health to ensure your body is in balance and working well.

I know that once you begin on your own holistic health journey, you won’t turn back.
